Goombah's purpose to build the most meaningful music community by providing an easy way for music lovers to discover new music and rediscover old favorites, and for artists to find their audience. Dictionary.com defines "goombah" as "a companion or associate, especially an older friend who acts as a patron, protector, or adviser." At Goombah, we are all about helping users find great music that is uniquely suited to their taste.
Today, there is a massive amount of music distributed in many ways, but music lovers don't have a good tool to find music they like among the overwhelming choices. Goombah provides personalized music recommendations and a new, efficient, way for artists to connect with their audience.
With more than 16 million million unique tracks in our member collections, there is no limit to the array of music that can be recommended. As pure user-driven music discovery, Goombah harnesses and shares the passion that people feel for music. This process democratizes music by putting the promotional power in the hands of music lovers, rather than the traditional model that relies on commercial tastemakers or the attributes of the song.
How Goombah Works
Goombah is totally free to users. Users can get started by entering their favorite artists or using one of Goombah's pre-fabricated lists. Both free tracks and recommendations from other members' collections are displayed and can be sampled in a radio-style play.
Building on information from its desktop application, Goombah analyzes the music and play patterns in music libraries to determine what mix of music people really like. Rather than analyzing components of tracks or linking similar artists together, Goombah uses the music taste of thousands of clusters of real people to make recommendations. The result is recommendations that are less predictable and more relevant. With more than 16 million tracks in user libraries, the music discovered with Goombah is targeted and full of delightful surprises – not just more of the same. Users enjoy a great listening experience playing the full-length of recommended tracks.
The Major Parts of Goombah Are:
- Recommended Free Music. Members are presented with legal free music especially selected for them. These high quality, professionally produced DRM-free digital tracks are sourced from nearly 1,000 record labels, and offered to members to download at no cost. They use Goombah as a promotional vehicle to specifically reach an audience that will like their music.
- Member Profiles. Members can browse the profiles and entire libraries of other members and friends. Profiles include Goombah supplied informaton like "Top Artists" and "Top Played" as well as information supplied by users. Members can browse the community starting from the unique group related to any music cloud. Recommendations are always changing as new members and music are added to the Goombah community.
